"A fabric made of patterns, textures and colors of modern high rise buildings," says Yasmine Rafii. Yasmine carries her camera most places and shoots all of the time. Some images become raw material for compositing, some are simple documents, most are deleted and a very few move forward into final processing. Each of Yasmine's deceptively simple, contemplative compositions are the result of many hours of shooting and searching out the right location at the right time.
Yasmine Rafii is best known for her emotive city scenes saturated with rich colors. She takes her Canon camera with her everywhere, and captures compositions that explore rhythm and gesture. Her works start as raw photos and may be processed in Lightroom and Photoshop to achieve the emotions of the scene. Yasmine studied painting and textiles at the California College of Arts and Crafts, and she continued painting and showing in small group shows in the Bay Area, as she finished graduate studies in clinical psychology and art therapy. After a decade working in the business world, Yasmine returned to the arts by starting her own company self-publishing illustrated greeting cards. Around the same time, UNICEF commissioned three different series of small paintings for their notecard line, and she signed her first client as a graphic designer. When she is not shooting photos in her hometown of Seattle, Yasmine enjoys traveling, yoga, dance, films, cooking and gardening, and she speaks Farsi and French.
