Oleg Osipoff
San Francisco, California

Oleg Osipoff has a knack for capturing the magic of San Francisco. He currently lives in the Bay Area, where he teaches art. He is especially interested in the play of light and shadow. Traveling and working with motivated art students spark his creativity. Fun fact: he once spent a month near San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for a solitary artist residency.

Comments About This Piece

"Bernal Hill Row Houses" is an oil pastel drawing made on primed watercolor paper. It depicts a view of the steep Bernal Hills neighborhood of San Francisco. The light of late afternoon and evening has always inspired me, and especially the ribbons of shadow cast by symmetrical row houses perched on steep hillside streets. In this picture, pure cobalt blue was the ideal color to contrast the shadows with the saturated cadmium yellows of the evening pavement. This picture is on paper and will need framing.

Paper is a very common surface for all types of artwork, including photography, printmaking, drawing and painting. Art paper varies in thickness and color. Read the notes section to learn more about the paper used to create this artwork. If not noted as framed, most paper artwork will require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
