This piece was created as a meditation on a recent trip to Japan. With all the turmoil of the recent tsunami and the Fukushima nuclear power plant in peril, I decided to use a broken glass surface treatment to symbolize the difficulty and beauty that Japan finds itself in.

I printed the modified digital image on aqueous vinyl. I then broke tempered glass (safety glass) and laid the pieces over the image, sealing them with a clear epoxy. The piece is framed in a steel frame with blackened steel edges. This frame was custom welded by me for this piece.
