This bear was a gift my mom sent me for my 34th birthday. She tends to send objects for me to paint. As I was unwrapping him, I noticed how animated he looked, almost like he was unhappy to be wrapped up. I started the sketches for the painting soon after! This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Nicole

Nicole Newsted’s art celebrates the everyday objects that bring joy into our lives. “I create work for my inner child,” she explains. Through thick, strong brushstrokes she also explores the visceral qualities of paint. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and a bunny named George Jones. Her two dogs also keep her company while she does yoga. Fun fact: she usually keeps her confection and candy models around for a while. She’s learned that donuts with the most preservatives hold their shape the longest and that jelly beans turn white if left in the sun too long!
