Peter Zambas
McKinleyville, California

Peter Zambas's knowledge of art stems from his studies as an industrial design major. His love for oil painting comes from an apprenticeship he attended after surviving a bout of cancer. As an art teacher, he teaches the joys of seeing. As a painter, he teaches the joys of living. He says, "I paint because it feels good." There's no better reason than that.

Hi Peter- just to let you know that the painting "Rose Buds with Nico" just arrived and it was just perfect. Beautiful texture and the size just fits the part of the wall I was aiming to fill. My very best to Nico and thank him for the idea. All the best, Frankk

Mystery solved Peter- great name for your son and it looks like he might turn out to be an artist like his Dad. Cheers, Frank

Hey Frank, That's great. Niko is my son. When he was 5, he and I picked some roses to give to his mom and he said, "they're so pretty, daddy. Paint them." So we both did a quick sketch of them. His went to grandma and my are going to you. Thanks for the patronage. Peter

Hi Frank, Thanks for your inquiry and sorry for the late response. I was out of town. This piece has a block, top and bottom, on the back with a wire. I do that on most of my panel pieces since I like to hang them too. Let me know if you have any other questions. Peter

Comments About This Piece

It was a busy morning, and I only had an hour of free time. However, it was such a nice morning that I had to get out there to paint. I like the sketchy feel of this piece, and how it is as bright as the day. This piece is on masonite board and will need a frame for display.

Oil painting

Oil paint uses natural oils, such as linseed, poppy and walnut oil to bind the pigments. Oils are slow to dry, which allows the artist to rework the painting to achieve the desired effect. Also, they blend easily, which helps to achieve certain colors. With the rise of naturalism in 15th century Early Netherlandish painting, oil paints became preferred to quick drying tempera paint. Artists wanted a medium that would allow them to achieve detailed and precise effects in their paintings. Consider all of the detail in the masterpieces of Jan van Eyck and Hieronymus Bosch!

Masonite board

Masonite board is a thin, smooth panel of highly compressed wood. If not already framed, most masonite board artwork will require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
