About this artwork

Recently, Sumner has been exploring the use of text in her paintings, adding poetry to accompany the message of the artwork. This piece is about the loss we feel when thinking of times we can never return to - fond memories of people, places and spaces in time that life has pushed us away from, she says. In this painting, Sumner included the following original poem:The wind wafts away my memories
As it waltzes through my hair
Oh how I wish I could tell it
By my ears, just leave them there

I may be a crumbling colossus I say
Ozymandias beyond disrepair
But my memories are not your dust to breeze away
So by my ears, to whistle to my soul once more
By my ears, please just leave them there
