I have started a new series of paintings with a different approach. I always start my paintings with a few lines. This allows me to discover new characters every time. I prepared this canvas first with modeling paste and chose a background color to begin a blue monochrome painting, and then added some dabs of ocher, pink, white and orange. The black outlines accentuate the shapes and brings a lot of contrast. The characters are split and sort of cut out as to discover several facet of the subject. This oil painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Clemence

Initially everything is abstract, gestural and intuitive for Clemence Dubois. A shape becomes a bird, a fish, a flower or a character. Her paintings capture colors and shapes that words have yet to say. She says, “I want people to look at my paintings and observe my feelings for beauty in all forms and my joy of living that permeates my art.” Clemence likes to read, watch television, swim and travel. She also leads workshops in creative and figurative painting.
