Weldon Ball
Huntingdon, Tennessee

Weldon Ball creates bright, abstract landscapes that oftentimes let viewers fill in the details of a nature scene. He currently lives in West Tennessee and finds inspiration in landscapes from the Southeast or his visits to Europe. He advises viewers of his art to really pause and appreciate the color and the way that they create space, depth and an inner source of light. Fun fact: he found inspiration in the Chuck Close quote “Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work.”

Thank you for purchasing the painting and for the comments. I love painting the shifting colors of water and it is something special when a painting resonates with a viewer. Did you know the painting had been on display on Ugallery only several hours before you purchased it?

I had a difficult time choosing which of your paintings to purchase since I love the style and color in everyone of them. I finally chose "Islands in the Stream: Last Light" and am happy I did! Wonderful Art!

Thank you for your comments. My style is rooted in Cubism and my colors come from living in the South where colors are carried to the excess. After all, Elvis was the first to sport a pink Cadillac.

Very nice paintings. I love your style. And of course the nice colors.

Thank you for purchasing another painting. I always enjoy it when someone makes a connection with one of my paintings and the joy was compounded by your gracious comments.

I love the way I can look at a section of this painting up close and find a gorgeous abstract design. And then I step back and I see a beautiful landscape full of lights and shadows and creative choice of colors. I am in awe of the skill set involved in doing that!

I bought this because the placement of the shapes and the colors create such intensity and energy. I like to move my paintings around and no matter where I put this one , it brings my environment to life and raises my spirits.

Comments About This Piece

This painting is suggestive of a storm approaching a small, Caribbean island. The piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. The work comes ready to hang.

Oil painting

Oil paint uses natural oils, such as linseed, poppy and walnut oil to bind the pigments. Oils are slow to dry, which allows the artist to rework the painting to achieve the desired effect. Also, they blend easily, which helps to achieve certain colors. With the rise of naturalism in 15th century Early Netherlandish painting, oil paints became preferred to quick drying tempera paint. Artists wanted a medium that would allow them to achieve detailed and precise effects in their paintings. Consider all of the detail in the masterpieces of Jan van Eyck and Hieronymus Bosch!

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
