River Sentinel
About this artwork
The sentinel here is an ancient tree, along a river's edge, long dead. A snag, a sanctuary for owls, woodpeckers, and possibly that high nesting bird, the red-tailed hawk. Suzanne admits to a fascination with the tree, I've always had the feeling it was watching me, like a guardian against some threat. I painted the river and forest as a framework for that watchful dead tree.
