A scarlet road moves forward into the distance through a soft-focused countryside creating a contemporary atmospheric landscape. "The eye moves around the composition, lead by the road, the rising mist at its end and the uplifting warm light by the horizon," shares artist Mandy Main. The fiery road makes a vivid contrast to the warm palette of olive, warm greens, and ochres. Mandy renders her work with loose, animated paint application using knives and spatulas. "The horizontal format lends a sense of calm while the road and the lively texture add movement and intrigue."

Mandy Main is an art historian and landscape painter based in the Southern California desert. She has long been passionate about 19th Century American landscape paintings, which has been influential in her artistic practice. Mandy works in series, generally three paintings at a time. Her process begins with a vision of a place she has been, but she takes creative liberties with the aesthetic details. The artist is captivated by light and shadow, and strives to instill her work with moody drama through the representation of these elements. Using layers of paint and glazes, Mandy achieves mesmerizing atmospheric depth, encouraging the viewer to gaze and be still.

Being a learning raw artist myself, I liked the texture that is created in luminosity. Is it just through the brush that various shades of yellow are done? I am asking myself. Really interesting!!
