Piero Manrique
Mamaroneck, New York

Piero Manrique paints artworks with a distinct luminescence and bright color palette. He finds inspiration in change, evolution, and discovery. “My art is like nature, it never repeats, it keeps changing and evolving.” In his current series, Piero works mainly with his fingers and special pouring techniques. “The beauty of many of these paintings is how they keep changing as they dry.” He currently lives in Mamaroneck, New York. Fun fact: Piero always tells his clients to feel the painting and let it tell the story.

Hi Frank, thanks! I am really happy you like my paintings. "Sky on Fire" is one of my favorite paintings. Great Choice. Yes the acrylic paintings that I use are really high quality, and have an oil like appearance. Best, Piero

Frank 2/22/2017 | 7:42 AM

Hi Piero- My second painting from you and it is wonderful- "Sky on Fire" while acrylic has the texture of oils and great vibrant colors. I am very happy with it and will continue to follow your work. Cheers, Frank

Hi Piero- I received your wonderful painting 2 days ago and it was more than I expected. "Romantic Night" captured the color, thrill and romance of New York City. The city that never sleeps!!! I will continue to follow your work. Cheers, Frank

Piero Manrique 3/1/2015 | 11:23 PM

Thank you so much for your message. You're right, I relied on straight lines and dramatic perspective to create the energy in this painting. Lately as I have been walking around the city, I have been very impressed by the power created by the long stretches of city blocks flanked by the angular towers of the surrounding skyscrapers. I've been invited by Amazon Art - in conjunction with UGallery - to paint a similar image as a mural at the Affordable Art Fair this month. Hope To c you there.

I love this piece Piero. Your New York pieces, like the "59th Street Bridge" I bought, portray my city as something beyond phenomenal. "NY Streets" captures its energy perfectly. Your use of curvaceous color is always breathtaking, but with this one, the straight rapid lines of hues narrate the piece. Makes me even prouder to be a New Yorker. Thank you.

Piero Manrique 1/20/2015 | 8:57 PM

I really appreciate your comments. It's important to me to create original paintings that come from my own personal perspective. I'm glad you like them.

M Koziatek purchased this artwork. 7/1/2010 | 4:35 PM

My husband and I bought this painting for our mantel over the fireplace. It is the statement piece in the room and people have walked in and been awed by it. We literally get people saying, "Wow"! We were thrilled to find a piece that intertwines geometric lines with passionate brushtrokes and I love the hint of human form. The colors work great in our living space. I am impressed with Piero's work and look forward to following his career. I have been an art lover for a long time and was excited to purchase such an exceptional piece.

Piero Manrique 4/15/2010 | 10:53 PM

Jeff I want to thank you for you kind words and as an artist it fills my soul that my work inspires you. I want to create work that inspires and that opens the minds to new worlds. I want to let you know that Balance was transformed to perseverance, see the piece carfully and you will see it. This is one of many hidden secrets in the piece.

Jeff L 4/15/2010 | 7:18 PM

Wow. Your work is amazing and deeply moving. I saw your painting "Balance" here last summer, and was really taken with the off- kilter geometry and mock symmetry of it. When I checked back, "Balance" was gone, but "Courage", "Calm", and "Perseverance" had all been added. I can't express how happy it makes me to have these three paintings. I draw inspiration from them, and I see something new each time I look. "Perseverance," especially, is a psychedelic masterpiece; within the confines of the frame are numberless worlds to be explored. Thank you.

Comments About This Piece

In NYC, it can be easy not to notice the beauty of movement when everything happens so fast. Walking through the streets of the city, I am captivated by a scene of wild activity. It makes me wonder about the individuals driving the cars and riding the bicycles. In this painting I explore how our differences and our similarities blend in the constant movement of an urban landscape. The painting continues around all sides of the gallery wrapped canvas. It comes ready to hang.

Oil painting

Oil paint uses natural oils, such as linseed, poppy and walnut oil to bind the pigments. Oils are slow to dry, which allows the artist to rework the painting to achieve the desired effect. Also, they blend easily, which helps to achieve certain colors. With the rise of naturalism in 15th century Early Netherlandish painting, oil paints became preferred to quick drying tempera paint. Artists wanted a medium that would allow them to achieve detailed and precise effects in their paintings. Consider all of the detail in the masterpieces of Jan van Eyck and Hieronymus Bosch!

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
