Barn owls have fascinated many people since ancient times and I am one of them. This is one of the owls that lives in the wooded area on my property. It is stunning to see it fly with absolutely no sound. Night Angels, that is what I call them. This painting was created in many layers giving parts of the painting a luminescence. Where the paint has been built up and painted on thickly, some wonderful poetic textures can be found. Even though this painting depicts the owl flying in the early evening, the colors I chose create a happy but almost spiritual feeling.

The piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Pandalana

Before approaching the canvas, Pandalana Williams uses her vivid imagination to picture her subject in her mind's eye. While envisioning what she wants to paint, she imagines herself seeing it from all angles or playing it in her head like a movie. She especially enjoys painting from life, either from a still life she sets up or from plein air painting. It is not just an object to me, or just a place, but something that has created an emotion, she explains. When she paints, she enjoys listening to chamber or classical music. Normally, she spends about four hours a day in the studio but also enjoys taking walks in the woods with binoculars in tow. She currently lives in North Carolina.
