These hydrangeas were painted over a gold leaf underpainting applied randomly to highlight the flowers. Bright yellow, orange and green surround the bouquet. I felt very free painting this piece. It is on a gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. The work comes wired to hang.

Fresh cut flowers are one of life’s little pleasures. During cold and grey winter days, cheerful blossoms remind me that my favorite days of spring are near. Mary’s painting captures that optimism in such a vibrant and whimsical way. The yellow background makes the white and lavender flowers pop off of the canvas, while the slightly angled table guides the eye around the picture.
