I am extremely inspired by bold advertising, which influences us all. “Fabricated” is a large painting, made up of many images taken from ads that I have collected and online images that I found compelling. It’s a compilation of figures and products designed to work as a commentary on our American Culture. Our economy runs on selling a lifestyle, and this painting depicts how that lifestyle is portrayed. As a lover of typography and design, I felt it was necessary to add a word to the painting, a word that best describes our creative marketing culture. This painting does not aim to present a positive or negative view of our marketed world, but is meant instead to characterize American Mass Culture in an extreme way. The viewer should stop and think about which lifestyle they are choosing, and if it is being chosen for us. This piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished white edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Dustin

You might call Dustin Joyce an iconoclast. His project, The Modern Americana, is a playfully satirical depiction of current American lifestyle. More inquiry than proclamation, Dustin enhances and dramatizes our mass culture, making it appear as another advertising image. His paintings are neither inherently positive nor negative, instead he intends to present an exaggerated view of our American culture. Dustin strives to design work that is both beautiful and offensive. Fun fact: Dustin works as an Artist Assistant to Jeff Koons.
