Monterey cypress thrives near the sea on the west coast of the United States, where it is native to California's Monterey Bay. "It has a high wind tolerance, becoming increasingly more attractive under heavy wind conditions," says Tatyana. "The wind shapes the trees in a way that looks like they are dancing on the beach at Lovers' Point." Cool afternoon light accentuates the painterly branches and glows across the sand and water in the distance.

Artist Tatyana Fogarty displays the intricacies of nature with her impressionist landscapes of Central California's coast. Her interest in painting nature was born out of her admiration for the 19th-century Russian artist Ivan Aivazovsky's dramatic marine scenes. As a plein air artist, Tatyana finds an inspirational location, uses all of her senses to interpret a scene, and creates a study with oil on canvas. "I do not generally touch-up my plein air pieces, preferring to preserve the immediacy and honesty of painting on location." Fogarty enjoys listening to everything from Tchaikovsky to Creedence Clearwater Revival during her creative process. When she is not painting, you can find her at operas and ballets, traveling the world, or listening to audiobooks in her woodland studio. Tatyana's creations have been showcased at galleries in California, New York, and The Southwest Art Magazine. Fogarty is a Signature member of The American Impressionist Society.
