Hi Bruce, I love the frame! I usually frame my paintings with a floating frame too...that way you can see the edges of the canvas. Best, John

Hi John, Yes, Samantha emailed the photo of the painting on your easel overlooking the park. If I understand you correctly that you also have one of you working on the painting there, that would be wonderful. Samantha said she would forward to you a couple of photos of the painting hanging in our foyer. At the suggestion of James Woods, a framer here in Birmingham, we decided to mount it in a floating frame. Here is a link to James Woods; he is an interesting guy, and a very respected artisan: We would appreciate knowing what you think about how the frame interacts with your painting. All the best, Bruce

Hi Bruce, I am so glad you guys like the painting! I think Samantha emailed you the photo of me painting in Dolores Park. If not, am sure we can get you a copy. Best, John

John, While we were deciding to purchase Dolores Park, I seem to recall there was a photo posted on your page of the canvas with the live scene behind it. If so, do you by chance still have it, and would you consider emailing me a copy? We would love to have it to share as part of the story behind the work. All the best, Bruce

John, We are thrilled to have "Dolores Park" hanging in our foyer. It is the first thing that friends and family see when they enter our home, and it sets the tone for warm, friendly gatherings, much like that of the folks lounging on the grass. Thanks, John, for this strikingly beautiful piece. We look forward to enjoying and sharing it with guests for many years to come. All the best, Bruce

Comments About This Piece

This piece was painted entirely on location (en plein air) on Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills, California. The painting is full of bold brushstrokes!

This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Oil painting

Oil paint uses natural oils, such as linseed, poppy and walnut oil to bind the pigments. Oils are slow to dry, which allows the artist to rework the painting to achieve the desired effect. Also, they blend easily, which helps to achieve certain colors. With the rise of naturalism in 15th century Early Netherlandish painting, oil paints became preferred to quick drying tempera paint. Artists wanted a medium that would allow them to achieve detailed and precise effects in their paintings. Consider all of the detail in the masterpieces of Jan van Eyck and Hieronymus Bosch!

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
