Patrick Soper
Lafayette, Louisiana

Patrick Soper paints works that explore line, texture and the female body. In his paintings, he explores the texture of paint and different color combinations. Many of his pieces mix flesh tones with other colors to add interest. When he's not making art, he enjoys traveling, fishing, reading, and going to outdoor music festivals. Fun fact: Patrick was originally a zoology major and met his wife in a taxidermy shop.

Artist and Customer Comments

Added some brand new paintings to my page this week. Really having fun with the texture and layers as well as the simplicity of the wash pieces! As one of my students commented, "They're so organic!" Back at the easel this weekend painting a big portrait profile of a model from Ireland who is of genuine Gypsy decent. Authentic jewelry and, of course, jet black hair! Stay tuned. Should be a cool one! Pat

Hi Frank! So glad "Torsion" arrived safely and you are happy with it!! It is one of my favorites as well! The models name is Bella and she is beautiful! The painting Autumn's Kiss is of her also! I'm about to be posting some new work that I am very excited about! So glad you are following! It means everything to an artist to have their work appreciated! Have a great week and thanks again! Pat

Hi Pat- "Torsion" just arrived and is everything I hoped it would be. I love the defining texture and the use of coloring both on the body and background that adds a dreamy feeling to the entire work. I shall follow your work and wish you the best of success. Cheers, Frank

Hi Pat- thanks for the quick answer on a holiday weekend- and I responded quickly with my order all though it was hard to decide which of your works I liked best- Your work is outstanding and I shall certainly follow it. Cheers, Frank

Hi Frank, thanks so much for the compliment! Yes my pieces come ready to hang with a wire so nothing else needs to be done to put them up on a wall. Please let me know if I can be of any further help! I deeply appreciate the input and would love to be able to add to your art collection! Pat Soper

Hi Patrick- Just to clarify-when you say it comes ready to hang- does that mean it has a wire or some other device? I really like your work and would want to just hang it right up without any further work. Thanks, Frank

Comments About This Piece

For this oil painting, I thinned the paint and applied it as a series of washes to capture the face and figure of this beautiful model. I really love doing these looser, more spontaneous pieces, as they force the artist to work with speed in order to capture the very essence of the subject. The final result is beautifully elemental. The lovely Eurasian model named Cat made this piece amazing! This piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished white edges. The work comes ready to hang.

Oil painting

Oil paint uses natural oils, such as linseed, poppy and walnut oil to bind the pigments. Oils are slow to dry, which allows the artist to rework the painting to achieve the desired effect. Also, they blend easily, which helps to achieve certain colors. With the rise of naturalism in 15th century Early Netherlandish painting, oil paints became preferred to quick drying tempera paint. Artists wanted a medium that would allow them to achieve detailed and precise effects in their paintings. Consider all of the detail in the masterpieces of Jan van Eyck and Hieronymus Bosch!

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
