Zion National Park is one of the most spectacular parks in the country.  The Virgin River meanders through the park.  This painting was painted mostly with palette knives.  I wanted to show the solid mountains as they receded.

Getting to Know Robert

After painting for years out of the family room of his home, Robert took the plunge and built an addition to his home for proper studio space. He works in two very different styles, producing both color-blocked abstracts and realist landscapes. Robert begins each painting by creating a thumbnail value sketch to establish a composition. Each piece reflects his mood, but whether energetic or placid, the colors must always be harmonious. Robert’s technique uses mostly brushes with the occasional addition of palette knives to create subtle surface texture.
