Tigers are cats too, aren't they? And what a beauty this big cat is! I had so much fun painting the large bristled whiskers and the unique, almost calligraphic-type black markings on this magnificent animal. The green background of this painting contrasts so well with the vibrant orange, yellow, and brown shades of the tiger's fur. I'm planning on doing more paintings of big cats. There's so much to learn about their beauty, and painting them is the best way for me to find out more.

Getting to Know J.

Growing up in Southern California, J. Dunster got her start in the art world by selling celebrity portraits to fans - and sometimes even the celebs themselves. She moved on to study drawing, anatomy, and painting at Otis College of Art & Design, and now specializes in oil paintings of portraits, figures and animals. She paints to find the beauty and nobility in things, capturing emotion, drama and silliness. She says quite a few of her models act surprised by what they see in her portraits, “as if I discovered something more noble or beautiful in them. But it's not a put-on, that *is* what I see in them.”
