I painted this picture from a photo I took at a professional ballet school. I was attracted to this quiet moment between class and rehearsal.  This young dancer is now a member of a major ballet company. This piece is oil on 100 lb Bristol paper, primed with acrylic gesso on the front and back.

Getting to Know Liz

Liz is a self-taught artist who is inspired by the graceful movement of the figure. She paints both from her own photographs and from life. One of her favorite subjects, the dancer, exemplifies a celebration of the female form and the artist’s personal love of ballet. Liz’s paintings are emotional and even raw, capturing each subject with active line- and brushwork. She does not assign an intended interpretation or narrative to her paintings; “I think that each viewer brings their own response to my art, and I don't care to 'mess' with their vision and experience.”
