This painting shows a section of Broadway in downtown Los Angeles and an historic lineup of theaters.  The area is currently undergoing a massive wave of construction and renovation, but the stillness imposed in the painting speaks to the consistency with which the culture and structure of the city adhere to certain themes and industries.  This painting has wrapped white edges.  It is wired and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Jesse

Jesse’s scenes of Los Angeles capture the essence of the city with compelling accuracy. The artist’s landscapes, often set at dusk, convey the glowing natural beauty of the West Coast, but also the industrial sprawl of California’s largest city. The juxtaposition of concrete and beaches, streetlights and sunsets represents the constant tension between humans and nature. While many of the scenes appear picturesque at a glance, upon closer look the viewer sees the omnipresence of man. And yet, amid the expansive urban jungle, the magical rays of the sun manage to shine through.
