"In this painting I recall the atmosphere of the south," explains Agnieszka. "It is an atmosphere of the summer holiday, the time of rest, regeneration and contact with lush southern flora, which is symbolized by quasi-abstract flowers covering the head of the main character." Part of Agnieszka’s current series of surrealist portraits expressing her own personal need for contact with the world of nature.
Artist Agnieszka Potrzebnicka comments on honoring nature with her dramatic surrealist floral portraits. Having worked as a painting conservator after college, as well as being a lover of nature, Agnieszka felt called to interpret our modern world with elements from our history. Her studio is filled with books and plants that inspire her. Once inspiration hits, she paints with oil on canvas. "My art expresses my own personal need of a contact with the world of nature, my longing for a lost relationship with nature, that we as humans used to have, but we lost it in the time of progressive industrialization." When she is not painting, you can find her tending to her small urban garden, in which she grows various plants and vegetables, as well as spending quality time with her daughter. Potrzebnicka’s creations have been showcased in various exhibitions in Poland. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Akademia Sztuk Pieknych in Warsaw, Poland.
