This is an imagined landscape. I live around fields and farms, and I love how the land gets divided into strips of color. Those strips of land, when viewed from a distance, create abstract bands. I reflect these shapes in the sky. This painting is on cradled wood panel with finished white edges. It comes varnished and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Nicole

Nicole Ryan paints imagined landscapes, but surprisingly, she’s not all that interested in landscape paintings. Rather, she is interested in the concept of memory. “My goal is to recreate a place I feel I was but can’t quite pinpoint,” she says. As memories move from reality to abstraction, it becomes easier to misremember things, or think they may have just been a dream. This hazy area is Nicole’s source of inspiration. She uses color to create ethereal landscapes that illustrate the purgatory between memory and imagination, the real and the unreal.
