I made a series of paintings in which the subjects are a mixture of princesses and queens in vintage clothing. These paintings are influenced by stories of my childhood.

The canvas is painted in oil using warm and vibrant colors for the characters, and softer blues for the background. I love applying paint with different thicknesses, and adding decorative motifs to the clothing of my characters. The rather delicate black outline defines the elements. This piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished black edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Clemence

Initially everything is abstract, gestural and intuitive for Clemence Dubois. A shape becomes a bird, a fish, a flower or a character. Her paintings capture colors and shapes that words have yet to say. She says, “I want people to look at my paintings and observe my feelings for beauty in all forms and my joy of living that permeates my art.” Clemence likes to read, watch television, swim and travel. She also leads workshops in creative and figurative painting.
