Artist Ingo Ulrich paints an open field in the last few days of snow. Creating the piece, en piece en plein air Ingo captures this idyllic area near his home in Freiburg, Germany. "I used warm colors to emphasize the illumination, in which the deep purplish shadows seem to glow," says Ingo. Small patches of dry grass lead the viewer's eye to the heavy thicket of trees emphasized by the soft radiance of the sky.

Ingo Ulrich

Lahr, Germany

Artist Ingo Ulrich captures the splendor of the rocky mountains, valleys and big rivers in the Black Forest of southern Germany. He gravitated towards art as a teenager, constantly sketching and drawing his surroundings. At the age of 16, he received his first brushes and paints, which quickly blossomed into a lifelong passion. Since then, he’s worked to hone his skills participating in painting workshops and with the guidance of several mentors. Ingo's current series captures the nature around his home in Lahr, where he creates many of his paintings on location. "There's nothing better than the sound of nature when painting en plein air," says Ingo. "It's the seductive sounds of wind moving the grass, birdsongs and the whispers of nature's spirit." Ingo balances his creative pursuits with a full-time position in a hospital, where he works as a physician. In his free time, he and his wife enjoy spending as much time as possible in nature.
