Mickey Cunningham painted this sunny landscape on location on the shore of Lake Superior. She says that the colorful flower in the scene, the purple loosestrife, is very pretty but also an invasive plant. Mickey applied rich green, yellow and pink in lively brushstrokes against a calm, cool blue lake and sky in the background. The old pine tree adds scale and authority to the composition.
