"These little apartment houses are a facet of the mid-century modern architectural jewel that is often overlooked.," says artist Mitchell Freifeld. The structures march on for miles in Los Angeles, near Television City. Block after block in all directions, rarely over 3 floors, with parking beneath the first floor. The clean lines denote their basic functionality. A wonderful cubist world of bright light and deep shadow comes to life at night. "But once you close the door, you are safe. You are home."

Mitchell Freifeld cannot remember a time when he did not draw and paint. He won his first juried show at age 10 and decided that someday, he'd be a 'real painter.' He settled in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early '70s and got involved in the burgeoning tech industry. From there, he moved to Portland upon accepting an information technology position. On the drive home after being laid off the day of the September 11 terrorist attacks, he realized life is short and decided to devote himself full-time to painting. His work focuses on architecture and cityscapes, and portrays everyday places that become lost to our curiosity through sheer familiarity.

This is a fun and interesting piece of art. I like what he does. I like the colors. It is bright but not annoyingly so. He does nice clean work and his finish is neatly done. His photos of his art on UGallery are the real thing. No camera or lighting alterations. Good Job Mr. Freifeld!
