"These small Mississippi River islands in St. Cloud, Minnesota are called the Beaver Islands," explains Mickey. "People often fly fish along their shorelines. They are especially lovely in spring when the greens show a great variety and some of the trees flower." Small flecks of color animate the surface of this painting.
Saint Cloud, Minnesota
Mickey Cunningham is an impressionist painter from Minnesota who uses loose brushwork and vibrant colors to create landscapes and figurative artwork. Her work is inspired by the Pennsylvania Impressionists Fern Coppedge and Edward Redfield. Throughout her portfolio, she explores adding new abstract elements and experimental colors. In her figurative work, Mickey avoids overly specific or narrative details so that each viewer can interpret it in his or her own way.
