After arranging the composition for this floral still life, Nicole was immediately attracted to the soft warm light reflected on the right side of the pink blooms. "The color of the flower petals shifted from a bright, cool pink on the left to a warm pinky orange," she says. Set against a neutral blue-grey background, the Astras appear to glow.

Artist Nicole Lamothe melds time and the beauty of nature in her nostalgic floral still life compositions. After Nicole's children entered college, she went back to school for her MFA and now devotes much of her time and effort into practicing and perfecting her artistic goals. The bouquets depicted in her paintings come from a variety of sources, including gifts of affection, purchased from her local florist or handpicked in her garden. Each of Nicole's oil paintings first starts out as a drawing. "When I begin a drawing for a painting, the flowers haven't bloomed," shares Nicole. "The flowers will slowly bloom and the final painting is a narrative of growth that takes place over the course of several days." In her free time, Nicole enjoys pottery, embroidery, sewing and tending to her garden. Her artwork has been exhibited in New York, California, Florida, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
