Nancy Hughes Miller spends much of her time at the beach observing waves as they roll in from afar. Working from memory and imagination, she paints colorful seascapes to express her love for the coastal landscape. Here she blends a range of colors in the sand and sky to indicate the light of sunrise and sunset. "The universal elements of sky, water and sand provide infinite inspiration," says Nancy.

Getting to Know Nancy

Reflected in Nancy Hughes Miller’s paintings are the coastal and rural environments of southeastern North Carolina, her birthplace, where she still spends much of her time. As a child, Nancy’s primary education did not include art classes, so she was delighted when one day her oldest brother returned home from college with newsprint and charcoal. She went on to pursue a career path in graphic design and fine arts. Now a full-time artist, Nancy experiments with vibrant colors and fluid forms to create her non-traditional, painterly landscapes. She enjoys working with oils, a medium that dries slowly and lends itself nicely to blending. Nancy strives to produce artwork that is, according to her, “quiet, yet bold.”
