Mickey Cunningham has been painting outdoors since college, and still spends much of her time creating plein air landscapes. Of this piece, Mickey explains "Reflections and flickers of light on water become abstract. Shapes can feel positive and negative, and the decisions in paint intriguing. I like playing up contrasts of thick and thin and rough and smooth."
Saint Cloud, Minnesota
Mickey Cunningham is an impressionist painter from Minnesota who uses loose brushwork and vibrant colors to create landscapes and figurative artwork. Her work is inspired by the Pennsylvania Impressionists Fern Coppedge and Edward Redfield. Throughout her portfolio, she explores adding new abstract elements and experimental colors. In her figurative work, Mickey avoids overly specific or narrative details so that each viewer can interpret it in his or her own way.
