I like to travel on Google maps and catch scenes from far away places, as I really hate to actually travel. This painting is one of my favorites. The people in the scene seem to be having a great time during the sunny hours.

This piece is on canvas board and will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Nancy

From Lithuania to Brazil, Nancy Herman’s paintings depict quiet, romantic street scenes from all over the world. One might assume that Nancy is a world traveler, but on the contrary, she dislikes traveling and prefers to experience the world from the comfort of her own home through browsing Google maps. With a sense of voyeurism, Nancy geo-locates and zooms in on peaceful streets, brightly painted homes, and people enjoying a sunny afternoon, all with the ease of navigation on her computer screen. The small paintings are like postcards, expressing a fascination with an exotic place that we may never visit. Nancy has a wonderful approach to color and light, and captures her scenes in a flat, graphic, and modern style. Although the scenes are pleasing and idealistic, they can also feel structured and stiff, which parallels their pixelated source material. The scenes are both real moments in time, and far away places that may not actually exist.
