Artwork

"This painting was inspired by a feeling—a rekindling of the soul," says artist Pamela Blaies. "Using color temperature, I wanted to create the impression of a visceral outward glow that inner passion can generate. The saturated flush on her cheeks makes you almost feel the warmth that suggests a slow thaw happening from deep within."

Pamela Blaies

Colleyville, Texas

Pamela Blaies unexpectedly discovered her passion for art. A move with her family put her children in sad spirits, so to cheer them up she painted murals on their bedroom walls. With time, she began looking forward to painting more and more. She works in “alla prima” style, a technique in which artists don’t wait for paint to dry and work with layers of wet paint. The effects of light and shadows in the world greatly influence her work.

This painting is so airy and light it feels like a luminous dance of color and motion. When I look at it, I feel alive with the power, youth, and beauty of my own daughters, now in their twenties. I purchased "She Prefers Her Head in the Clouds" to capture the feeling of my older daughter at this moment in time, and "Gold Cross" to do the same for my younger daughter.

I love the feeling of youthful, vibrant feminine energy this painting evokes. The colors, brush strokes, and composition all create a soulful vitality and sense of mystery that draw me in, and remind me of my own daughters right now in their twenties. I am so happy to have "Gold Cross" to capture the mood of my youngest daughter as she is now, and "She Has Her Head in the Clouds" to do the same for my oldest daughter.
