This work is part of a three-theme series. The first theme, "Paradise," which this work is part of, shows the natural world in its glory; the second, "Losing Paradise," shows the struggle of animals with their loss of habitat; and the third, "Lost Paradise," shows an apocalyptic but also realistic view of animals in their last struggle for survival. The darker side of this is muted to leave room for the beauty and life still present in these animals. This sunrise was as amazing and realistic as it looks in the painting. I used strong and quick brushstrokes to suggest the rapidly changing nature of the scene. The painting is on a cradled wood panel with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Eric

Eric Vanasse grew up in Montreal, where the classical methods of drawing and painting are no longer taught in most superior art schools. Instead, he gained his knowledge and skills by studying rigorously under American and European classically-trained artists who founded schools dedicated to the classical traditions. This path allowed Eric to merge the rich traditions of the past, the scientific knowledge of the last decades, and a contemporary spontaneity that gives a breath of life to painting. His intention is to capture the inherent beauty in life and bring a reflection on our life as humans and on our environment in a way that is not preaching.
