Getting to Know Yuan Hua

Before becoming an artist, Yuan Hua Jia worked as a computer programmer for many famous companies in China. After 15 years, Yuan needed a change, and fortuitously, happened to fall in love with an artist. “We paint together, learn from each other, and share the happiness that art brings to us.” At first Yuan was not sure what to paint, until an early morning walk through the ruins of a nearby hutong. One year earlier, there had been a venerably ancient courtyard, but on that day only a broken gate stood among the mass of rubble. Yuan’s heart was deeply touched with feelings of sadness. His work strives to tell the story of how rapid modernization is encroaching upon traditional Chinese culture.
