This work is part of an ongoing series of landscapes titled Dreams of the Future, where David envisions earthly landscapes over the coming decades corresponding with celestial events. He uses these dates as a starting point to create dreamy scenes with expressionist color and an almost otherworldly feel. A grassy hillside climbs to the left, with rich foliage in blues, green, yellow and fuchsia. A bright overcast sky shines in ethereal blue and purple in the distance.

David Forsthoefel

Cincinnati, Ohio

David Forsthoefel uses an impressionistic approach to celebrate the variety of Midwest geology, fauna and seasonal color. He strives to capture an integrated blend of shape, color and tone that revels in the abstract qualities of the paint itself. David is a native of Dayton, Ohio, and now lives in Cincinnati. His interest in the visual arts began at a very young age, with early forays into drawing with Jon Gnagy and his Learn to Draw series on television. This first exposure sparked a life-long search for artistic expression that included a BA in Fine Arts at the University of Louisville, and a career as a commercial illustrator and designer. Since retiring, he has devoted much of his artistic energy to painting the natural landscape in and around Cincinnati. He is a Signature Member of the Cincinnati Art Club, the Lexington Art Guild of Florida and the Transparent Watercolor Society. When not in his home studio, David helps care for his six grandchildren. He says he also has a serious golf habit that takes him outside to observe nature.
