Nancy Hughes Miller believes the marsh exudes a meditative power, and in its midst one can find peace and relaxation. This tranquil and restorative landscape near her North Carolina coastal home inspires many of her paintings. "I love to paint the summer marsh in its vivid green color!" exclaims Nancy. "Deep, bright blue water and sky complete my impression of this wondrous environment."

Getting to Know Nancy

Reflected in Nancy Hughes Miller’s paintings are the coastal and rural environments of southeastern North Carolina, her birthplace, where she still spends much of her time. As a child, Nancy’s primary education did not include art classes, so she was delighted when one day her oldest brother returned home from college with newsprint and charcoal. She went on to pursue a career path in graphic design and fine arts. Now a full-time artist, Nancy experiments with vibrant colors and fluid forms to create her non-traditional, painterly landscapes. She enjoys working with oils, a medium that dries slowly and lends itself nicely to blending. Nancy strives to produce artwork that is, according to her, “quiet, yet bold.”
