"Restaurants have always been one of my favorite sources of reference material," says Faye Vander Veer. "I saw this chef in New York and quickly took his photo. I was attracted to the stark contrast between his white uniform and the dark background, knowing it would make an interesting painting. As his hand reached into the container and picked up the strawberry, I imagined he might be thinking, Just One More."

Faye Vander Veer encapsulates the beauty of the everyday in her paintings. She oftentimes catches interactions, such as an exchange between a little girl and her mother. She once painted a work based on a young woman she saw sitting on a rock in the middle of a stream.
