It was an irresistible impulse, an urgent feeling within, which needed to be immediately poured out on the canvas & given its own voice. It was a furiously paced process of several weeks. The sound of it still resonates inside with questions: What do you feel, looking at this angel against the light? What story does it tells? You decide.

This artwork was painted with Grumbacher and Windsor & Newton professional oils, mixed with organic linseed oil for extra shine/flexibility. The canvas chosen is a heavy weight cotton duck, which is more tightly woven than plain canvas. The artwork is coated with a thin layer of archival varnish for protection.

Getting to Know Suzanna

Suzanna Orlova exclusively uses shades of red and black in her paintings. This is largely because she was born color blind. Her vision deficiency did not stop her from being interested in painting at a young age, and honing her skills as a self-taught artist. Suzanna’s work is haunting, eerie, and emotional. The painterly realism she employs in capturing her subjects is technically remarkable for the water-based media she uses. Bordering on surrealism, each painting leaves the viewer feeling deeply moved. Suzanna lives and works on Vancouver Island, Canada.
