This image shows four swimming pools in a modernist neighborhood on the edge of night. The lights are all on and everyone has just gone in for the evening. Maybe they'll come back out later for a night swim. Layers of glazing give this piece a glow that emanates from within; it is a combination of the glazes and alla prima painting. The piece is on gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Mitchell

Mitchell Freifeld cannot remember a time when he did not draw and paint. He won his first juried show at age 10 and decided that someday, he'd be a 'real painter.' He settled in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early '70s and got involved in the burgeoning tech industry. From there, he moved to Portland upon accepting an information technology position. On the drive home after being laid off the day of the September 11 terrorist attacks, he realized life is short and decided to devote himself full-time to painting. His work focuses on architecture and cityscapes, and portrays everyday places that become lost to our curiosity through sheer familiarity.
