"The 'new development area' in Portland was a very old suburban neighborhood that had fallen on hard times and was literally falling down when it was raised in the early 60s," says Mitchell. "It was replaced with a mid-century modern apartment and shop complex with gardens, walks and water features. It's a somehow soothing place to wonder through - brings back memories of another time. Something different is going on in each apartment as the people settle in for the evening."
Mitchell Freifeld cannot remember a time when he did not draw and paint. He won his first juried show at age 10 and decided that someday, he'd be a 'real painter.' He settled in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early '70s and got involved in the burgeoning tech industry. From there, he moved to Portland upon accepting an information technology position. On the drive home after being laid off the day of the September 11 terrorist attacks, he realized life is short and decided to devote himself full-time to painting. His work focuses on architecture and cityscapes, and portrays everyday places that become lost to our curiosity through sheer familiarity.

I really love the artwork I bought, "In The Small Hours #3." The colors are vibrant. It's just beautiful. Thanks Mitch!- K Moon
This is a fun and interesting piece of art. I like what he does. I like the colors. It is bright but not annoyingly so. He does nice clean work and his finish is neatly done. His photos of his art on UGallery are the real thing. No camera or lighting alterations. Good Job Mr. Freifeld!- S Day
