"The historic Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles has a cafe on its street level called Best Girl," explains artist Hadley Northrop. "The floor is a classic black and white checkerboard, and all day long people pass through this utilitarian but welcoming space. The figures in this painting, preoccupied and temporal, are at work, but it's a scene of calm activity - the serenity of a quiet pause in the day for coffee."
Please note: this painting has stapled edges, so framing is recommended for optimal display.
San Francisco, California
Hadley’s subject matter is inspired by her San Francisco surroundings, particularly the city at night. Her glowing depictions of light sources are reminiscent of a blurred photograph or a bleary-eyed nighttime stroll. Hadley developed her love for art from her mother, a watercolorist, and continued to pursue her artistic career at a collegiate level and beyond. She now works out of a small studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. Hadley goes into her studio seven days a week with her Boston terrier puppy.
