I found these lovely lily pads at Descanso Gardens in a suburb of Los Angeles.  They were so peaceful and happy looking.  I wished there was a frog sitting on one.  With this painting I tried to concentrate more on shapes, colors, and values versus focusing so much on the actual object I was painting.  I love painting this way because the image eventually "pops" out of all the colors and shapes and surprises me! This piece is varnished on masonite board and will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Rachel

Rachel is a self-taught artist who began developing her skills at a young age. She attributes her thirst for creative pursuits to her childhood travels and early exposure to different cultures. Rachel’s impressionistic style and bright color palette illuminate each subject she paints, particularly her florals. Balancing life as a painter and mom of three young girls has been tricky, but Rachel has figured it out! She homeschools her daughters, and they make time to create art as a family.
