Tricia May
Boise, Idaho
Drawing her inspiration from the outdoors, Tricia May describes her paintings as “impressionistic with a contemporary flair.” Her early work focused on the figure, but after moving to Idaho in 1992, she became fascinated with capturing the landscape. She is a founding member of the Plein Air Painters of Idaho, and enjoys painting on location, in the sunshine, whenever possible. Tricia’s love of being outside has rendered her quite prolific–her current “Tree” series numbers more than 400 paintings and counting. “I plan my paintings ahead using sketches, a value pattern, and color choices,” says the artist. “Then I allow intuition and spontaneity to take over, enjoying the process.”

Thank you Richard, Within a 200 mile radius of Boise there is such a variety of landscapes to paint. Add the four seasons and the opportunities are endless! I am currently working on a foothills scene and hope to have it completed soon. Boise is growing so fast but it is still a great place to live. Come back to visit!
Tricia, you are very skilled at painting! I love your outdoor scenes involving trees. Your work is gorgeous. - Richard Adams P.S. I grew up in Boise, Idaho, and I often miss that area.
Thank you Bill, Glad you are enjoying my artwork! Happy Holidays. Tricia May
We are really enjoying "Clarity". We will stay tuned for more paintings by Ms. May. Bill Waterman
Thank you John, Great insight, you obviously appreciate the creative challenges of a painter. I have been painting many years and have to push myself to stay excited about what I do. I recently put up a new mantra over my easel. "Enjoy the process". Tricia
Sunlit Tapestry 2. Cool colours that evoke a sense of temperature and a particular time of day. Even the warmth of the clouds look chilly. The "scatter" effect of the leaves and small branches increase the overall impressionistic dimension of the painting - a network of flickers - and reminds one a bit of Erin Hanson (see Saatchi) and a lot more affordable! - John Wilson
I just returned from my annual plein air painting trip to Stanley, Idaho. The surrounding landscape including Redfish Lake is so inspiring. I willl be posting some new paintings soon!
I am looking forward to getting outside to paint now that the weather is warming up. I have a few plein air events coming up here in Idaho and will post some new paintings with UGallery soon. Thank you to all the art lovers out there who have collected my work! I always love hearing from you. Tricia
Marie, I meant makes a difference (not mades). I never was good at spelling!
Hi Marie, Thank you so much! I love hearing from you and that my work mades a difference in your life. That touches my heart! Happy New Year, Tricia

Hi Tricia- I received "Cottonwoods" very quickly and it was everything I hoped it would be and your beautiful landscapes will keep me coming back. Thanks so much- Cheers, Frank
Hi Frank, This was a learning experience for me too! I will prepare "Cottonwoods" for you as requested and ship it right away. Thank you for your support. Cheers, Tricia
Hi Tricia- Well we settled the "hanging" details for "Cottonwoods" and I am very excited to get it. The sawtooth hook on a piece of wood should do the trick and I thank you for your patience. I think I now know the terminology to use. Ill let you know when it arrives. Cheers, Frank
Hi again Tricia- You are right- I don't need a frame around the outside- I meant some wooden strips on the back with a wire on one to hang it. Does that make sense? Thanks so much, Frank
No problem. I meant a frame around the outside. Are you wanting to hang this without a frame? Tricia
Thanks for the quick response Tricia- forgive my confusion as I am still a novice in the art world. When you say frame do you mean a wood frame backing to the panel with a wire to hang or a frame around the outside of the panel which I dont need. My main concern is hanging the artwork. Sorry I may be using the wrong terminology- Thanks for your patience- Cheers, Frank
Hi Frank, so nice to hear from you. I checked my posting of "Cottonwoods" and see my wording is unclear and I will edit it. This painting is on wood panel and will need a frame unlike your "French Lavender" that is on a deep canvas. I frame my small panels with a simple black frame and would be happy to include one at no charge. You can always have it re-framed later. Thanks, Tricia
Hi Tricia- I'm back after my last purchase- now interested in "Cottonwoods" which I love- tell me when you say ready to hang does that mean with a wire? Many thanks, Frank
Hi Marie, I am so pleased! It means so much to an artist to know someone really appreciates their work. Have a great summer! Tricia
Tricia, My husband just painted some of the walls in our living room. I could not wait,I started to have him put up some of the artwork already. What beauty your artwork has added to our living space. Thank You so much. I will be back Marie Madsen
Hi Marie! I am so glad you love all your new paintings. It's not uncommon for us to pick out something we love as a gift and end up keeping it for ourselves! Enjoy, Tricia
Tricia, I love all of my paintings all three of them. I kept the one I was going to give my son ,I will buy him something else for his new house soon. Unable to part with any of them. Thank you for the beautiful work. Marie
Hi Frank, I am honored to have my artwork in your collection. I am always inspired to keep painting when I hear from satisfied collectors like you. Enjoy! Tricia
"French Lavender" was delightful and I am so glad that I have it in my budding art collection. I certainly will continue to follow your work. The colors are so vibrant and bring out the fullest in all your landscapes. Cheers!
Congratulations Frank! Maybe my work will bring you warmer weather. We are having an unseasonably warm February in Boise and so grateful. Enjoy your new artwork! Cheers, Tricia
Hi Tricia- well I did it and chose "French Lavender" - It is a ray of spring and sunshine during this freezing February we are experiencing on Long Island, NY. I hope Boise is a bit better! I cant wait to see it in person. Thanks so much, Frank
Thanks for the explanation Tricia- now for the hard part, I have to choose one to start with. They are all so appealing. Cheers, Frank
Hi Frank! I would be happy to tell you something about my oil paintings. I would say they are impressionistic, and the more abstract work (little subject matter) I would call expressionistic. I love to see fluid brush strokes and soft edges. This leaves more to the viewers imagination. Yes, my artwork is wired on back & attached to the stretcher bars. Thank you for your interest! Regards, Tricia
Hi Tricia- your work is all so good that it is hard for me to decide which to choose. I particularly like "French Lavender"- you mention that it comes ready to hang- does that include the wiring? Also how would you describe the style- abstract, impressionist or what? Im just new to the art world and am trying to learn quickly. Thanks and all the best, Frank
I feel honored you chose my work for your son's first home. It was so thoughtful of you to let me know. Thank you so much, Tricia
Oh, they are beautiful. I bought them for my son's first home. I cannot wait to get the frames and hang them up with him. He loves the choice I made. Thank you , You have a gift !!!!!
Thank you Marie, It is on it's way, I hope you love it! Tricia
I can't wait to see it
Thank you Scott! I appreciate hearing from you and that you are enjoying my artwork. I hung "Colors of Winter" in my home briefly and was always amazed how differently the colors looked with the changing light. I think it's the underlying transparent paint. Thanks again and enjoy! Tricia
Tricia again today a received a complement on my(your)painting. we love to stand back and admire how all the colors you used come together so perfectly. I will enjoy this painting for a long time. great job.
Autumn is arriving in Boise and the colors are mesmerizing! I am busy painting new landscapes and posting them as soon as they dry. Please let me hear from you, any questions or comments are welcome.
Many thanks to all who have followed my artwork this past year. For those who have purchased my paintings, I am honored to have my work in your home. I would love to hear from you! Happy Holidays! Tricia

gorgeous!
I am excited to participate in the Annual Plein Air Painters of Idaho's paint-out at Redfish Lake, Stanley, Idaho. September 3-5 twenty painters create artwork on location, while visitors look on. Wet paintings are displayed in front of Redfish Lake Lodge. It is great fun!
merci beaucoup!
