Artwork

Classically rendered still life of citrus, grapes and a plum on a wooden table. Complemented by a copper serving dish, glass jug and flowing white drapery. Inviting orange, yellow and purple on a warm reddish brown backdrop. "Light is the essential element of a still life," says Zhi Li. "A beautiful still life tells the story of the light's journey across space. In this painting, I tried to show the light shimmering on the copper plate at the left side of my canvas. Then I tracked it as it traveled across, letting it reach full intensity on the glass bottle and orange on the right side."

Zhi Li

NEW YORK, New York

Becoming a professional artist has been Zhi Li’s dream since childhood. After graduating from an art and design university in Shangdong, China, she worked as a designer at an advertising agency, where she received a number of awards for her work. In 1998, Zhi says she moved to New York "to pursue the dream deeply rooted in my soul." She won a special grant to study oil painting at the Art Students League of New York. "I love painting still life - the concept, light, drama and beauty," she says. Her lush, blooming and often peak-ripe still lifes offer viewers a chance to appreciate the beauty of nature while also considering the fleetingness of the moment. Zhi continually focuses on accuracy, design, depth and drama in her art. She works from a studio on Riverside Boulevard in New York, overlooking the scenic Hudson River and Riverside Park.

Thank you for loving my painting and for your patronage! I really appreciate it and your feedback. I'm sorry to disappoint you, and in the future I will improve on it and finish the edge with paint, so that it will be more professional. Happy Holidays!

The painting is beautiful and I love the way the light is captured. I was disappointed, however, to receive a painting with an edge that was “finished” with electrical tape.
