This painting is primarily a sky painting. The clouds are warmed by the setting sun. The land is silhouetted against the lower part and a plowed field is seen. A variety of paint brushes were used with different effects. The sky shows warm and cool blues.

Getting to Know Robert

After painting for years out of the family room of his home, Robert took the plunge and built an addition to his home for proper studio space. He works in two very different styles, producing both color-blocked abstracts and realist landscapes. Robert begins each painting by creating a thumbnail value sketch to establish a composition. Each piece reflects his mood, but whether energetic or placid, the colors must always be harmonious. Robert’s technique uses mostly brushes with the occasional addition of palette knives to create subtle surface texture.
