Painting from memory, artist David Forsthoefel displays a dramatic impressionist landscape of rolling hills. He evokes a rustic rural European scenery filled with lively foliage—rays of sunlight beam from the center of the cloudy sky. Mixing soft patina metallic paints into the oils gives the finish a warm glow.

David Forsthoefel

Cincinnati, Ohio

David Forsthoefel uses an impressionistic approach to celebrate the variety of Midwest geology, fauna and seasonal color. He strives to capture an integrated blend of shape, color and tone that revels in the abstract qualities of the paint itself. David is a native of Dayton, Ohio, and now lives in Cincinnati. His interest in the visual arts began at a very young age, with early forays into drawing with Jon Gnagy and his Learn to Draw series on television. This first exposure sparked a life-long search for artistic expression that included a BA in Fine Arts at the University of Louisville, and a career as a commercial illustrator and designer. Since retiring, he has devoted much of his artistic energy to painting the natural landscape in and around Cincinnati. He is a Signature Member of the Cincinnati Art Club, the Lexington Art Guild of Florida and the Transparent Watercolor Society. When not in his home studio, David helps care for his six grandchildren. He says he also has a serious golf habit that takes him outside to observe nature.
