This work continues to be a dominant theme in my practice.  Layers of bold colors dominate the canvas.  I paint the colors I see in the moment of the paintings.  For me, colors represent emotions, people, places and experiences.  Together they create a visual story.

Getting to Know Mia

Mia Henry’s paintings are not only gestural and abstract, but also musical. The colors and brushstrokes flow and blend with an unexpected rhythm that translates emotion into a visual experience. Mia is inspired by the memories of her childhood in Newport, Rhode Island, where she would spend time by the ocean. She works almost exclusively with oil on canvas. She emphasizes the tactility and materiality of her process through layered compositions and exploration of new tools. Mia’s compositions give her paintings a lyrical musicality that rings with each abstract crescendos of color.
