"A confident Curly Girl struts across the stage, channeling her inner Betty Boop," Sumner explains. "She flashes a playful tattoo as she moves across the floor, pictured here as stripes of black and lemon yellow, while the limelight curves around her. She is all about putting the fun in femininity." This painting is part of Sumner's signature series of Curly Girls. These flowing, Art Nouveau-inspired characters represent transformation. Sumner always places the figure alone and in the middle of a personal story - in the middle of their transformation.

Sumner Crenshaw

Frederick, Maryland

Artist Sumner Creshnaw paints grand expressionism with a delicate touch. She infuses her work with movement, lines, and varying degrees of color. A universal story resonates from her art with underlying internal narratives. She always captures a glimpse of transformation, growth, and empowerment. The stories she portrays help her subjugate personal trials. These visual metaphors help her find a voice. “It’s a valuable way to connect with viewers,” says Sumner. A constant search for inner understanding and peace has led her to a life of creative endeavors. Residing in historic Downtown Frederick, Maryland, she works from her home studio with her ever-present assistant, Hiccup the dachshund. When Sumner is not dreaming up her next painting, she’s outlining the next destination she can check off her bucket list.

I gave this as a gift today, Christmas, to my son-in-law, who is VERY hard to buy for on any occasion. I know art is very personal, so I was hesitant. He really liked it! So did his wife and my son. It was a hit! The artist’s style is light and airy. This is a beautiful piece that makes you do as its title says, “Just Breathe”.

Sumner - what happemed to the "Surrender" painting and there was another one = I think it was called I forget the name. I bought "Hiding" and if I like it I was hoping to buy "Surrender" and "Grace Pink???"" . you have removed two of the artwork that was right next to Hiding and is replaced two other paintings that sort of look alike but not the same.
