During an artist residency in Florida in 2019, Mary had the opportunity to explore remote places inhabited by some unusual bird species. "My favorite was the limpkin bird I followed through the mangrove," she says. "They are locally known as the 'wailing bird' or 'crying bird' due to their loud mournful call, usually issued at night by territorial males. This little guy would hop away every time I got close enough to snap a photograph. I managed to get a few images worthy enough to use as reference."
Mary Pratt, a Georgia-based artist, is known for her impressionistic yet modern oil paintings that capture the world with a jovial poise. Her soft, ethereal palette is complemented by the occasional bright pop of color. The artist’s aesthetic choices are intuitive rather than premeditated. Through her gestural brushstrokes, Mary’s paintings summon a joyful, even childlike, emotional response. Her style is nuanced by a range of inspirations, including scenery from the state of Georgia. The personal edge that Mary brings to each painting alters and enhances recognizable subject matter, cultivating an imaginative visual experience.

We love this new art in our dining room. We've probably bought 40-50 original art works from UGallery and have been very, very happy being a customer here.- J Linehan
Your painting, "Magic," arrived today and it is even lovelier than it appeared to be on the website. I find your style extremely appealing and am thrilled to have chosen it. It will definitely take the place on my wall where the "former favorite" now hangs.- S Burke
